Welcome

This online open house allows people to learn more about and comment on the environmental assessment (EA) for the I-5 Marvin Rd to Mounts Rd project. The Washington State Department of Transportation is conducting a National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review of 4.7 miles where I-5 crosses the Nisqually River Delta. The project’s goals are to ease traffic congestion, reduce delays and support environmental restoration. The project also aims to make I-5 more resilient to weather and other changing conditions.

The project focuses on the section of I-5 between the Marvin Road interchange (Exit 111) and the Mounts Road interchange (Exit 116). This part of I-5 spans the Nisqually Delta and covers Thurston and Pierce counties.

This online open house will provide information about the study area. It also will share design options and environmental considerations. There is an overview of the NEPA EA scoping process and information on how to share your comments.

What is an Environmental Assessment?

WSDOT is conducting the NEPA review as an environmental assessment (EA). The purpose of an EA is to study and document the project’s potential environmental impacts. The EA will study effects related to transportation, noise and natural resources. It will also examine parks and recreation, community resources and other environmental considerations.

WSDOT will study two scenarios in the EA: the proposed project (Build Alternative) and doing nothing (No Build Alternative).
