US 395 Loon Lake Intersection – Safety Improvement Plans – What is a compact roundabout?

Compact roundabouts

WSDOT defines compact roundabouts having an inscribed circle diameter between 65 to 120 feet. Compact roundabouts require no additional roadway pavement width or right of way to construct. Compact roundabouts have a completely mountable center island if required for larger freight vehicles. Compact roundabouts are similar to single-lane roundabouts, which are slightly larger in size, and use the same design vehicle assumptions and size to process traffic volumes, accommodate pedestrian crossings, and using similar signing.
