Welcome!
Washington State Ferries (WSF) is updating the two-boat backup Triangle route sailing schedule this summer and we want to hear from you!
Governor Bob Ferguson recently announced WSF is working to restore ferry service on three routes that have been operating below pre-pandemic service levels this summer. That means adding a second boat to the Seattle/Bremerton route, adding service to the Port Townsend/Coupeville route, and adding a third boat to the Triangle route. This will be a big service increase for more than two million customers who depend on the Triangle route each year to travel between West Seattle, Vashon Island and South Kitsap County, via Southworth.

To provide consistent and reliable service, we began working to update the two-boat Triangle route schedule in fall of 2024. Now, the two-boat schedule will serve as a better backup service option this summer. On June 30, WSF plans to begin operating a three-boat Triangle route schedule. However, as we increase service throughout the system there may be times when three Issaquah Class ferries or a full crew are not available.
As part of an investment in the route, WSF updated the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth “Triangle” sailing schedule through an extensive community engagement effort from 2016 to 2019. WSF operated on the revised three-boat schedule for nearly one year before the COVID-19 pandemic began impacting service. Crew and vessel shortages caused WSF to continue reduced, two-boat service on the Triangle route nearly continuously since 2020. This schedule has not been updated in a decade and was designed for very occasional use during emergencies.
The Triangle route serves three communities, with diverse interests and needs. Your input is an important part of the schedule update process. We want to update the two-boat backup schedule to better meet the needs of people who rely on ferry service.
