The State Rail Plan analyses how rail traffic growth of both freight and passenger trains would affect rail system performance. It identifies where bottlenecks are likely to occur if no additional capacity or operational improvements were made to the rail network in Washington state. The Plan ranks each section of the mainline rail network based on low-, moderate- and high-growth scenarios for 2040 and compares them to the existing capacity in 2016.
More details on the rail system capacity in Washington state are available in Chapter 5 of the State Rail Plan.
