SR 510/Yelm Loop – New alignment phase 2 online open house – Intersection improvements

WSDOT is proposing the following improvements to roads along the SR 510/Yelm Loop alignment as part of the Phase 2 new alignment.

Cullens Road

  • The SR 510/Cullens Road will become a four-leg intersection and be the western starting point of Phase 2.
  • This intersection will have stop signs on Cullens Road and will be free flow for SR 510 traffic.
  • The shared use path will be extended on the south side of the road.

Crystal Springs Street

  • Crystal Springs Street will not have an intersection with the SR 510/Yelm Loop to maintain intersection spacing as discussed under Roadway access.
  • A cul-de-sac will be constructed on the north side of the SR 510/Yelm Loop.
  • On the south side, the intersection of Crystal SpringsStreet and View Drive Court will be converted to a three-leg intersection with no north leg.
  • Residential access will be maintained to Crystal Springs Street.

Rhoton Road

  • The SR 510/Rhoton Road will become a four-leg intersection.
  • This intersection will have stop signs on Rhoton Road and will be free flow for SR 510 traffic.  
  • The 90th Avenue connection to Rhoton Road will be cul-de-sac as a part of the SR 510/Rhoton Road intersection construction.

Canal Road (north crossing)  

  • Canal Road will not have an intersection with the SR 510/Yelm Loop to maintain intersection spacing as discussed under Roadway access.
  • Canal Road will be re-aligned to connect to Canal Court north of SR 510/Yelm Loop and re-aligned to connect with Thea Rose Drive south of SR 510/Yelm Loop.
  • Residential access will be maintained to Canal Road

Wilkensen Road

  • The SR 510/Wilkensen Road will become a four-leg roundabout intersection.
  • South of the roundabout intersection, Wilkensen Road will be realigned to construct the roundabout.

Prairie Line Trail

  • Phase 2 will add a bicycle/pedestrian underpass at the Prairie Line Trail.

Railway Road

  • Railway Road will not have an intersection with the SR 510/Yelm Loop to maintain intersection spacing as discussed under Roadway access.
  • Cul-de-sacs will be constructed on the east and west side of the SR 510/Yelm Loop.
  • Residential access will be maintained to Railway Road.

Flume Road

  • The SR 510/Flume Road will become a four-leg intersection.
  • This intersection will have stop signs on Flume Road and will be free flow for SR 510 traffic.

Canal Road (south crossing)

  • Canal Road will not have an intersection with the SR 510/Yelm Loop to maintain intersection spacing as discussed under Roadway access.
  • Cul-de-sacs will be constructed on the east and west side of the SR 510/Yelm Loop.
  • Residential access will be maintained to Canal Road.

103rd Avenue

  • The SR 510/103rd Avenue will become a four-leg roundabout intersection.
  • The road will be raised as a part of the roundabout construction.
  • The shared-use path along the south/west side of the corridor will transition to sidewalks and bike lanes on both side of the SR 510/Yelm Loop south of the intersection.

SR 510/507

  • The SR 510/SR 507 intersection will become a three-leg roundabout intersection.
  • Access control will be provided along SR 510 between SR 507 and 103rd Avenue by a raised center median.
  • Access control will also be provided to the east with a raised center median extending easterly past the Walmart driveway.
