Project descriptions

WSDOT is planning two coordinated transportation improvement projects in Mukilteo. Both aim to improve safety, accessibility, and travel choices for everyone.

Project #1: SR 525 Spur Vicinity Mukilteo Ferry Terminal – HMA Paving and ADA Compliance

We are planning to repave SR 525 from the SR 525 Spur to near the Mukilteo Ferry Terminal and upgrade curb ramps to make them safer and more accessible for people with disabilities. This project is scheduled for construction in spring 2026, supported by a $1.5 million grant. WSDOT is working to include as many bike and pedestrian improvements as possible during this phase, with longer-term improvements potentially delivered in a future unfunded project.

The SR 525/ SR 525 Spur Vic to Mukilteo Ferry Terminal – HMA Paving and ADA Compliance project begins just north of the SR 526 spur (milepost 5.72) and ends at the ferry terminal (milepost 8.47).
This project will repave and construct ADA upgrades on SR 525 from SR 525 Spur Vic (milepost 5.72) to Mukilteo Ferry Terminal (milepost 8.47). The project will incorporate as much active transportation facilities to meet WSDOT’s complete streets requirement as feasible.

Project #2: SR 525 Mukilteo Bridge Replacement

We are replacing the SR 525 bridge over the BNSF railroad tracks in Mukilteo. The existing bridge is aging and no longer meets modern design standards.

The new bridge will include improvements for people walking and biking and will enhance connections between Old Town Mukilteo and the waterfront, including the new Mukilteo Ferry Terminal. Pre-Design work is underway now through summer 2025. We’re looking for your input to help shape how the new bridge serves the community.
