After an in-depth review, WSDOT developed a safety plan for this intersection. The plan outlines ways to help manage travel speeds and reduce conflict points. A conflict point is where vehicles cross, merge, or diverge.
WSDOT is proposing a single-lane roundabout on SR 3 at the Division Avenue intersection near Gorst.
The goal is to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes. Roundabouts are a proven solution to reduce and prevent crashes. They promote lower vehicle speeds and reduce conflict points.
WSDOT is planning safety improvements for all users. This includes those who walk, bike or roll.
Funding for this project comes from the Highway Safety Improvement Program. HSIP is a federal program. It funds projects to reduce crashes and prevent serious injuries on public roads. That means this money is set aside for safety improvement projects.
