SR 109 Ocean City to Taholah – Remove Fish Barriers

Welcome to our online open house!

Construction is planned on the Quinault Indian Nation. There are five locations under State Route 109. Each location has a culvert that blocks fish migration.

Existing culvert that carries Wain Creek under the highway.
The existing culvert at Wain Creek is a barrier to fish. This culvert is among five that will be removed
and replaced with a fish passable structure.

The work is related to WSDOT’s ongoing effort to remove barriers to fish.

Existing culverts channel water under the roadway. These culverts were designed before WSDOT fully understood the effects they would have on habitat.

WSDOT must comply with the federal court injunction. The permanent injunction requires the state to significantly increase the effort for removing state-owned culverts that block habitat for salmon and steelhead by 2030.
