Welcome to the Online Engagement Hub for the I-90 Connection at the North Spokane Corridor.

Engagement focus

This engagement series is designed to guide you through a group of activities that explore how places along the I-90 Connection at the North Spokane Corridor can be improved to strengthen connectivity, accessibility, and community experience. The activities ask you to reflect on how physical and social qualities of places align with community values and desired outcomes.

The NSC / I-90 map shown here highlights some of the upcoming discussion topics, including pedestrian crossings and roundabouts. Additional discussion topics will include plaza opportunities and landscaping throughout the corridor.

The previous workshops were interactive community engagement experiences designed to gather input on how the North Spokane Corridor connects with surrounding neighborhoods, businesses, and the broader transportation network. Participants explored how access and linkage, comfort and image, uses and activities, and sociability contribute to vibrant and connected places.

This engagement series builds on that foundation by using visuals and definitions, and placemaking attributes to:

  • Identify what makes places feel connected or disconnected.
  • Discuss how those attributes show up along the I-90 Connection.
  • Evaluate how proposed placemaking features align with community needs and vision.
  • Prioritize which attributes matter most for future corridor investments.

Feedback from this engagement series will be used to influence decisions that connect multiple modes of transportation to the places that people live, work, play, worship, shop, and congregate.

Thank you for taking the time to assist in the community engagement efforts of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

  • Survey purpose

The purpose of this survey is to gather community feedback that will help shape design preferences for landscaping along the I90 connection to the NSC. The I90 project corridor extends through the East Central Community in the City of Spokane and a western portion of the City of Spokane Valley. A map of the corridor is shown across four panels. Each of the four panels highlights one or more of the following elements: vegetated landscapes, architectural features, and architectural hardscaping in plazas. Additional updates for landscaping along the I90 project corridor will be located on NSCPlace.com.

The survey has four (4) main topics:

    1. Demographic Information (5 optional questions)
    2. Vegetated Landscapes (Tree Plantings and Enhanced Stormwater Swales)
    3. Visual Level of Service
    4. Architectural Hardscaping in Plazas (Sculptural Art, Seating, Shade Structures, Wind Blockers)

Information you submit will be used by the WSDOT project team to develop design preferences for landscaping along the I90 project corridor. The survey is estimated to take about 5-8 minutes to complete and will be open through Friday, February 20, 2026. If you need to view larger versions of the images in the survey, right-click on them and select, "open image in new tab."

  • Survey purpose

The purpose of this survey is to gather community feedback that will help shape the design preferences for architectural features along the I90 connection to the North Spokane Corridor (NSC). The I90 project corridor extends through the East Central community in the City of Spokane and a western portion of the City of Spokane Valley. The current NSC artist is Reinaldo Gil Zambrano. Mr. Zambrano used community input to develop the 16 drawings featured in this survey. In early 2025 the community provided feedback on his artwork. WSDOT is bringing those same images back to community to get additional feedback. Additional updates for architectural features along the I90 project corridor will be located on NSCPlace.com.

The survey has two (2) main topics:

    1. Demographic Information (5 optional questions)
    2. Architectural Features (developed by the current NSC artist Reinaldo Gil Zambrano)

Information you submit will be used by the WSDOT project team to develop design preferences for architectural features along the I90 project corridor. The survey is estimated to take about 10-12 minutes to complete and will be open through Friday, February 20, 2026.
