Schedule

Design and environmental work are underway for this project.

  • February 2026: Design begins
  • June 2026: Demolition of old bridge
  • July 2026: Construction begins on new bridge
  • December 2026: Project complete, new bridge open to traffic

History

The Hansen Road bridge over Interstate 90 was closed to safety concerns after an inspection showed significant deterioration of the bridge deck and pier caps.

The bridge was built in 1958 and connects the community of Moses Lake on the north and south sides of I-90. In 2023, an inspection identified deterioration due to chloride contamination. Repairs to the deck were completed during the summer of 2023 and the frequency of inspections was increased from every two years to every year, then in 2025 inspections were scheduled for every 6 months due to continued deterioration.

Due to the deterioration of the bridge, there is no temporary fix to reopen the road. The community and travelers should plan for an extended closure until repairs are complete.

From January 2026 inspection, the concrete has deteriorated through the bridge deck, risking debris falling onto lanes of Interstate 90 below.Bridge pillar and caps show increased deterioration during January 2026 inspection.
