Geiger Boulevard Reconstruction Phase 2 – Soda Road to Grove Road
Concurrently happening with WSDOT’s Geiger/GroveInterchange improvement project is a project being constructed by Spokane County along Geiger Blvd. between Grove Road and Soda Road.
Geiger Boulevard is an important corridor within the Spokane Region transportation network and has become the attraction for new large employers and economic generators within Spokane County. Lands bordering Geiger Boulevard are mainly zoned for commercial and industrial development, and in recent years there have been several applications to develop these lands. One of these applications, is an Amazon warehouse and distribution center that is estimated to bring between 1,500 and 3,000 new jobs to the area.
Amazon and other future commercial developments are expected to substantially increase the number of vehicles, especially heavy trucks, along Geiger Boulevard and connecting I-90 facilities. Spokane County received a $14.3 million BUILD grant in partnership with WSDOT, City of Spokane, STA, West Plains PDA and TIB to upgrade Geiger Boulevard. When complete, infrastructure improvements along Geiger Boulevard will deliver long-lasting connectivity to Spokane County and the City of Spokane’s developing industrial lands and will support further economic activity and development in the region.
Construction is anticipated to start in mid-July, continuing through the end of the year. It is possible that the project carries over into a second season and finish in summer 2021.
